If other persons are using your computer, with or without your knowledge, you should make sure that your private files are kept safe, so no one can access them. If placing your files deep within a folders structure and hiding them is not enough, you should look for a specialized application, to lock your data. Deep Lock can instantly encrypt and hide any files or folders. It allows you to place your files and folders in secure lockers, which can be opened only with a password.

Deep Lock's setup file is almost 2 MB and you will spend very little time installing the software. You can use it on Windows 7 or previous versions, down to Windows 2000. The software does not use too many resources and it takes up very little disk space.

The user interface resembles a standard explorer window. You can find your folders, as well as their contained files, in a tree structure, on the left side of the window. The larger area on the right is where you may create, open and close lockers. You can think of the lockers as virtual safes for your files.

When creating a locker, you must type its name and create a password, on a separate window. To protect your data, you must click and drag the files or folders to an open locker. Another way to protect a file or folder is to select it and click a button, which is located on a toolbar. A new window will show up, on which you must select a locker and type its password.

Whenever you attempt to open a locker, you will have to type in its password. You can explore your files and folders, within an open locker, just like on a simple explorer window. When you are done, you may close the locker and render its contained files inaccessible. The protected items can be unlocked with a single click. You can also use a series of options to copy the locked items to a folder on your hard drive, import or move them to other lockers.

Pros

You can store your private files in one or more secure lockers. Each locker can be locked, with its own password. You can add files and folders to a locker just by dragging and dropping them and unlock them with a single click. The software will hide the protected data, making it impossible to find, even if Windows is set to show hidden files.

Cons

When you unlock a file or folder, the characters from its name will be changed to lowercase. With Deep Lock, your private data will stay secure at all times. It takes only a second to lock any file or folder, regardless of its size.
